*Needs*

  • $0.99 RadioShack 2.2K Ω (2200 ohms), 1/2 watt resistor
  • Electrical Tape and/or Zip Tie
  • Ramps or other car lifting device

1.  You will need to raise the front of your car so you can get to the transmission on the under side of the car.  We recommend ramps or hydraulic lifts rather than manual jacks. Please be sure to pull your emergency brake up before going under the car. If your E-Brake is non-functional please cock blocks behind ALL the tires to prevent the car from rolling.

2.  Get underneath the car on the driver's side and locate the transmission.

3.  Locate the skip shift (CAGS) solenoid up high on the transmission and toward the front of the car. This solenoid will be located closer to the engine than any of the other two solenoids found on the driver’s side of the transmission.

 4.  Unplug the solenoid by lifting the locking tab and pulling back on it.  Take your resistor and bend it in the shape of a "U". Be sure NOT to bend the resister (fat part) and ONLY the side bars.

5.  Now grab the male connector (the end that plugs into the wire) and place each end of the resistor into each receptacle on the connector. Be sure to bend the resistor back over the connection so you can tape it up a little easier.

6.  Then you can use electrical tape or equivalent to seal the connection from water and other weathering.  Just make sure you can remove whatever you use to seal the connection with just in case you want to remove it for a dealer visit or other reason.

7.  You will need to tape up the connector end on the transmission (female end) to seal it from weather just like you did the male end. Just make sure you can remove whatever you use to seal the connection with just in case you want to remove it for whatever reason

8.  You may want to zip tie or tape the loose line to a near by line to keep it from dangling and possibly being ripped off or damaged when you are driving.

9.  Remove the car from the ramps and take your car for a short drive to make sure it works.  You will want to pull out slowly and make the skip shift light activate so you can take the car to second to make sure it works.  Your “Skip Shift” light will still come on but be assured, if done correctly, you will still be able to shift into 2nd gear without a problem.

If it fails then you have done something wrong.  The most commonly is unplugging the reverse lockout solenoid and place the resistor in that connector.  This will make it quite hard to shift into reverse.  If you have this problem, reconnect the solenoid and start from the beginning and find the correct Skip Shift (CAGS) solenoid.
